Welcome to the 2018-19 school year; we know it will be a wonderful year! This letter is to explain our second grade team homework policy.
We have spent time researching and studying homework procedures and we have determined what is best for our unit, our students and families. Research has been unable to prove that homework improves student performance.
Our homework policy is as follows.
All students are expected to read nightly and to be prepared for school each day. Occasionally math homework may be assigned to reinforce certain math skills or concepts. Homework will never be graded. However, if you feel your child needs extra practice or they are struggling with a concept, you can request additional practice ideas from your child’s teacher.
What will you do with your extra time? We have a few suggestions!
Rather than homework, we ask that you spend your evenings doing things that are proven to correlate with student success.
Eat dinner as a family and have conversation
Have your writer help make a grocery list and help you find the items at the store
Have your child help cook or prepare a meal or set the table
Play outside
Read together and talk about the book
Enjoy playing a team sport
Play a board or card game together
Join dance or gymnastics
Get to bed early
Thank you so much for your support. Together we will have the BESt year!
