Bad Weather Early Release Today

In an abundance of caution, School District Five will implement an early release of all students on Friday, September 2, 2016 due to the threat of inclement weather.
Normal early dismissal procedures will be followed.  Intermediate Schools will release at 11:30 a.m. Elementary schools will release at 11:45 a.m.The Academy for Success will release at 12:30 p.m. The Center for Advanced Technical Studies and Spring Hill High School will release at 12:45 p.m. and all other middle and high schools will release at 1:00 p.m.
All athletic and other school or district-related meetings, after school programs, adult education classes, events or extra-curricular activities scheduled for after school on September 2, 2016 are also cancelled.
Concern for the safety of our students, staff, bus drivers and parents as they commute to and from school drives this decision.
Any future announcements will be made using the school district’s automated telephone system, the district website, social media and local media outlets.

Please let me know if your child is to go home a different way than usual. Thank you and stay safe!

Happy Valentines

Happy Valentines Day! We will be exchanging Valentines on Friday. Please be sure NOT to send in candy! If you do send in something edible for your student to pass out to his/her classmates, it must be store bought with a nutritional label and meet the health and wellness guidelines. These guidelines can be found in a link on the right side of the blog. Below is a link to our class list.

Week in Review 1-18-16

This has been a short, but busy week. Be sure to ask your historian about our visitor "Uncle Jack" that came and presented to us on the Battle of Kings Mountain on Wednesday.

ELA

We are continuing  to look at characterization in fiction texts. We are also studying pronouns and the long o patterns in words. We have finished our writing unit on non-fiction. We will be beginning our persuasive writing unit next week.

Math

We have started chapter 8, applying multiplication and division strategies. We have also begun our weekly timed fact test. At this point your mathematician should know his/her 0, 1, 2, 3, 5, and 10's by memory and should be able to complete 60 problems in 5 minutes. Next week we will be adding the 4's to the facts we should have memorized. Please help your mathematician make flash cards at home to study these facts.

Social Studies

We have just finished Chapter 5 on the American Revolution. We will begin Chapter 6 next week. The study guide has already been loaded to the blog.

Science

We are finishing up Rocks and Minerals next week and the test will be tentatively scheduled for Tuesday, February 2. The study guide for that will go home next Thursday.

Notes

Report cards go home today, please sign and return the cover only next week.
Dr. Doug field trip money is due next Friday.

Have a great weekend and stay warm.
